Skills for Educators Workshop: The Art and Science of Assessment in Health Professions Education

This workshop will help you understand the purposes (e.g., formative vs. summative) of assessment in learning, select the appropriate assessment type (e.g., multiple choice questions, written tests, performance assessments) for the levels of learners' knowledge/skills being assessed, and utilize useful strategies for planning/evaluating your assessment practice in health professions education.

Objectives:

  • Understad the definition and purposes of assessment in medical education.
  • Understand the Miller's assessment pyramid.
  • Apply Miller's pyramid in your teaching/assessment settings.
  • Assessment validity (Messick's framework).
