The Carver College of Medicine Certificate in Medical Education is available to College faculty and professional staff, as well as UI resident physicians and fellows. The certificate program gives interested individuals another way to enhance their scholarship and skills in teaching, curriculum design, and educational assessment. 

If students complete the certificate and then decide to apply to the Master in Medical Education (MME) Program, courses taken for the certificate can be applied to the MME degree.

Those interested in the Certificate will complete the University of Iowa Admission as a Nondegree Student Application following the same deadlines as the MME Degree. Tuition rates are also the same as for the MME. 

Application Deadlines

When filling out the application, it will ask Purpose of attending: Certificate or Other. For this question, select Other and then write "Certificate in Medical Education" in the Explain textbox. 

Additional Application Materials

In addition to the online application form, applicants will submit by email (ocrme@uiowa.edu) the following materials:

• Letter of support from the individual's department head (or residency/fellowship director)
• One additional letter of reference
• Personal statement
